Re: Cowley brothers take over at Huddersfield Town

People need to get over themselves about long ball football. The fact is that all the best ball playing footballers gravitate up to the better teams and thus coaches have to make do with the material they’ve got and find a way to get the best out of it. And this is what the Cowley brothers have done at Concord, Braintree and Lincoln.
Now they have moved over to Huddersfield and it will be interesting to see how they do in getting that squad playing and being effective enough to avoid relegation. I can see them making Huddersfield safe from relegation but the brothers will be managing at a level new to them and they will be new to handling players a step change better than those at Concord. They are an evolving pair as coaches, learning and improving as they go, and their attention to detail will hold them in good stead. It will require Huddersfield’s owners and fans to be patient but the Crowley’s will leave no stone unturned to get success.

Southend should have offered them the job a couple of years ago. Too late now, look at the state of Southend and where the Cowley's have gone. Not the smartest chariman is Ron Martin
They will struggle to even entice Sol Campbell now

They'll have some Premier League dosh to play around with at Huddersfield for a good couple of seasons, so it'll be interesting to see if they change they way they set their teams out now considering they should have one of the better squads in that division.

Huddersfield is a Championship club with recent Premier league experience To say they should hold out for something ‘better’ is complete nonsense The club is on a low after relegation so with some new impetus should be quite easy to push them up the table. If they do well there other opportunities will come.
Be interested to see if they abandon the long ball shit now that they have some Premier league players at their disposal

Only seen them in cup games against decent teams and I can't remember watching it and thinking what a long ball team they were.
Seemed to play ok stuff to me.

"play football according to the players and league they are playing in to get results."
Sounds familiar...

First managed Concord Rangers on Canvey Island.
Their record at all clubs is impressive.

gph, precisely. They cut their cloth accordingly and have risen from non league football to the playoff places in League 1 in 3 years and play football according to the players and league they are playing in to get results.
As i've mentioned Danny and Nicky are life long friends and i know they will evolve the way their teams play with the quality they have at their disposal on better pitches and in higher quality footballing leagues. They are not a BFS dinosaur playing percentages and i for one think they have what it takes to manage at the top in time. I will enjoy watching their continued rise and hope they fulfill their potential.

Maybe they're pragmatists.
Perhaps they wouldn't have their teams play Allardyce-style football if they had players to fit another way of playing.

I always had them nailed on for something like the QPR or Brentford job as soon as they became available.
Maybe Millwall is a step too far but they wouldn't be the first West Ham folk to end up huge legends at The Den 😋

Good luck to them as avid hammers making a difficult journey...but it sounds a bit like they make Big Sam look like an advocate of total football, so more than happy to watch their rise from afar!

All lincoln's success is all down to them two also the work in the community they did was outstanding. Use to make players clean the away dressing room on rota system to make them appreciate what they have. Make a good job at Huddersfield and the next step is big time.

Should have held on at Lincoln until a decent club came calling. Not sure they'll be able to do much with 'uddersfield.

Been at my hometown club for 3 years....unbelievable rise from non league football. 2 back to back promotions, Check a trade trophy and FA cup quarter finals... Knew they would eventually go on to better things. Gutted to have lost them but wish all the best. Nice chaps and really integrated within the community.

Sacked in 6 months, or meteoric rise to manage Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Either is a proper WHO contribution. They got a long way to go to match John Still.

Pretty sure I went to college (Havering 6th Form) with Nicky. Bit cocky but nice enough fella.
Anyway, I was speaking to someone I know about 3 or 4 years ago who played for a few semi-pro teams.
He told me he had been managed by someone called Danny Cowley (I didn't make the link with his brother at the time) and said how he was on another level to any other coach he had ever come across (albeit at admittedly lower levels).
He said his attention to detail was mind blowing. Knew everything about everything. He assured me he was going places and I've followed his progress ever since. Really nice to see them both get this big break.
